Question 1

What is the difference between Group games and Competition games?

Accepted Answer

A Group game is a single round you organise with your group: course, tee time, format, live hole-by-hole scoring, and optional stakes. Competition games are course-based events any golfer can create club competitions, charity or fundraising rounds, opens, medals over a date window, and similar. You enter (entry fee as set), play your round, then submit a scorecard; results rank on that event’s leaderboard. In short: Group games = one scheduled round with the group, live scoring. Competition games = dated event at a course, post your round for the leaderboard.

Question 2

What is a Game and how does it work?

Accepted Answer

A group game is one round with your group (or invited players): course, tee time, format, optional fees. Once the round starts, everyone uses the live scorecard the leaderboard updates in real time at the end, players attest and any stakes settle through wallets. Practice games in the sidebar are different free solo rounds for any registered golfer pick a course, start the round, and log your scorecard to build stats in Analytics. No fees and no other players required.

Question 3

What is a Competition game and how does it work?

Accepted Answer

A Competition game is a named event tied to a specific course, with start and end dates and an entry fee (often £0 for informal events). Examples include club comps, charity days, and fundraisers. You enter (fee is taken from your wallet when using in-app collection), play anytime in the window, then submit your hole-by-hole scorecard. Your result ranks on that event’s leaderboard (e.g. net score for Stroke Play, points for Stableford). You don’t score live alongside other entrants in the same way as a group game you post your round for that event.

Question 4

What are Practice games?

Accepted Answer

Practice games are free solo rounds for every registered golfer. Pick the course you are playing, create a round, start it, and use the same live scorecard as group games to enter strokes hole by hole. There are no entry fees or platform charges. When you finish all holes and sign your scorecard on the scorecard page, the round is recorded as finished and counts toward Analytics (averages, recent rounds, and practice vs group totals). It is designed as a simple reason to download the app and keep using it between social rounds.

Question 5

Where do I see my stats and Analytics?

Accepted Answer

Open Analytics from the sidebar or account menu. You will see practice rounds and group games counted separately, plus average and best gross, a scoring snapshot (net, fairways, GIR when you track them), a list of recent finished rounds labelled Practice or Group, and wallet-related payment stats. Solo practice rounds appear after you sign your card; group games appear when the round is fully completed (attestation and settlement as your game uses). The Practice games page also links to Analytics.

Question 6

What are the minimum players for group games and competition games?

Accepted Answer

Group games and competition games require at least 2 players (twoball) in normal setups. Practice games are always solo (you vs the course): one confirmed player is enough to start, and you self-attest when you finish.

Question 7

How do I join a game?

Accepted Answer

Social rounds: when an organiser includes you (directly or through a group), the round appears under Group games open it and tap Join. Any entry fee is taken from your wallet or paid to your group organiser when it applies. Practice rounds: open Practice games from the sidebar, create a round (course and date/time), open it, tap Start, and use the scorecard no join step, no fees. Registered members only.

Question 8

I belong to a golf club on Golf2Play — where do I enter their competitions?

Accepted Answer

Open Clubs (/clubs) from the menu. Tap Events on your club, or use Your clubs — open events if you belong to several. Enter golf competitions or register for social and charity events. Club comps use the same scorecard flow as other competition games after you enter. This is separate from creating your own competition games under Competition games in the sidebar.

Question 9

How does scoring work during a game?

Accepted Answer

The scorecard uses course data (par, yardages, stroke index) like a club card. Enter gross strokes per hole; net scores follow the World Handicap System when the tee has slope and course rating (see the next question). When you are done, you sign your card to confirm the scores are correct (on screen signature). Your marker then checks and signs. Solo practice rounds: self-attest (no marker). The organiser can choose Stroke Play, Stableford, or other formats where offered.

Question 10

What should I put for handicap, and how is net score calculated?

Accepted Answer

Enter your World Handicap System Handicap Index on your profile (the same kind of number you see in GHIN or your union app not necessarily your “strokes for this course” until the app works it out). For each round, Golf2Play uses the tees you play: course handicap from your index, slope, course rating, and par, then applies your share of strokes on each hole using the scorecard’s stroke index (hardest holes first). Your playing handicap can also reflect the organiser’s handicap allowance % for the game. Net total is the sum of (gross strokes minus strokes received) on holes you have scored. If a tee has no slope/rating in our data, net falls back to a simple gross minus index adjustment until ratings exist. Net Double Bogey caps and “expected score” for unfinished holes apply when posting to an official handicap elsewhere not inside this app for live leaderboard net.

Question 11

What happens if two or more players tie on net score (or Stableford points)?

Accepted Answer

Golf2Play uses a standard medal count-back, like many club competitions: if net totals match, we compare aggregate net on the last nine holes of the round, then the last six, last three, and the last hole; if still tied, we compare hole-by-hole from the 18th backwards (lower net wins each comparison). Stableford ties use the same hole ranges but higher points win each stage. Group-game leaderboards and wallet settlement both follow this so finishing order and payouts stay fair. Nine-hole rounds use the same idea on your nine holes. Your committee’s written Terms of Competition always take precedence if they specify something different (e.g. playoff or draw).

Question 12

Is there weather on the scorecard?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The scorecard has a weather icon (cloud with rain) in the header. Tap it to open a popup with realtime weather at the course: temperature, precipitation chance, wind, humidity, and alerts for lightning, heavy rain, snow, or strong winds.

Question 13

How can I enter my scorecard from a photo?

Accepted Answer

On the scorecard page you can read scores from a photo (OCR) or attach paper scorecard photos for the leaderboard. On mobile you can either take a new photo with your camera or upload an existing image from your gallery/files. Review and correct any extracted scores, then save.

Question 14

How does rules guidance from a photo work (Official Rules of Golf)?

Accepted Answer

While a group game is in progress, you can use Rules by photo directly on the scorecard page (and competition games have the same tool on the competition screen). Take or upload a photo of your ball, lie, hazard, abnormal course condition, or anything you need clarity on. The app uses AI to describe the situation, then searches an embedded corpus of the official Rules of Golf (The R&A) and returns suggested rules and how you might proceed. This is guidance only not an official ruling from a committee or referee, and not a substitute for knowing the Rules yourself. You and your marker remain responsible for applying the Rules correctly.

Question 15

How do I finish a round and finalise my scorecard?

Accepted Answer

When all holes are entered, tap the Sign button on the scorecard. You will sign on-screen with your finger to confirm the scores are correct. For solo practice rounds, signing finishes the round and saves it to Analytics. For group games, signing submits your card to your assigned marker (if any); the marker then signs to finalise it.

Question 16

How do playing groups and markers work?

Accepted Answer

Organisers assign golfers to playing groups (twoball, threeball, or fourball) by dragging and dropping. Under the Rules of Golf (Four-Ball / stroke play), a player must not be marked by their partner. One scorecard with four players: list partners as 1–2 then 3–4; each of you is marked by one opponent only (not your partner). Twoball or threeball: markers rotate (each marks the next in order). Two scorecards (optional): same partner order—the first-listed golfer on each side marks both players on the other card; use ↑↓ in the organiser lineup if your committee appoints a different marker on that side. You sign your card; your marker signs after you submit. Competition entries follow the same ideas where group scoring and markers apply. Match play in the Rules does not use stroke-play marker duties in the same way; the app’s marker flow is aimed at stroke-play scorecards.

Question 17

How do I organise players into groups?

Accepted Answer

The organiser can drag and drop golfers into playing groups on the group game or competition game detail page. Add groups, name them (e.g. "Fourball 1"), and move players between groups or to "Unassigned" until the lineup is final. Save to apply changes.

Question 18

How do I invite friends to a group?

Accepted Answer

Create or open a group and use its invite flow to share the join code with your players (they enter it under Groups → Join).

Question 19

How do I join a group?

Accepted Answer

Groups are invite-only there is no search or browse. Go to Groups (sidebar or /groups), click Join, and enter the invite code (e.g. ABC3KL9X) you received. You get the code from a group admin: they can share it directly (WhatsApp, email, etc.), send it via Messages (Send group invite in a chat), or copy it from the group page and share it outside the app. Groups are not searchable by name, course, or location.

Question 20

How do chat and coordination work?

Accepted Answer

Messages lets you chat with other golfers. Start a conversation from a group or a game. Use it to coordinate tee times, share invite codes, and stay in sync before and during the round. You also get real-time scoring updates for games you're in. Open Messages from the menu to see your conversations.

Question 21

How do wallet deposits and withdrawals work?

Accepted Answer

Deposits and withdrawals are managed through the organiser by collecting from and paying to the golfer/s or the use of Stripe-backed flows in the Wallet section. Transaction status is visible in your history.

Question 22

If I collect group game or competition game fees from players myself (manual), how does the platform fee work?

Accepted Answer

When you choose to collect fees yourself (manual), each player’s or entrant’s fee line includes their platform share where it applies (often £0 for anyone on a platform-fee waiver). Group games: when you start the game, you pay from your wallet the total of those shares for confirmed players only the same numbers you see on each person’s breakdown not “max slots × fee”. If everyone confirmed is waived, that total is £0 and no platform payment is required. Competition games: creating a manual competition still charges the organiser max entries × the booking share (separate rule). After a group game has started, if the roster (or waivers) change so the sum of shares goes up or down, you may need to top up or receive a wallet refund.

Question 23

Can I use Golf2Play while on the course with poor signal?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Golf2Play is a PWA with offline-friendly support. Your device can keep working and sync updates when connectivity returns.

Question 24

How do I reset my password?

Accepted Answer

Use the Forgot Password screen from login. You will receive a reset link via email.

Question 25

Where do I set or change my App PIN?

Accepted Answer

The 6-digit App PIN (for quick sign-in; you are asked for 3 random positions each time) is managed on your Profile page. Open Profile from the menu, then use the "App PIN" section to create or change your PIN. You can then sign in with PIN from the login page. Settings holds notifications, privacy, and units only not the PIN.

Question 26

What is Golf Clubs?

Accepted Answer

Golf Clubs is the venue product on Golf2Play: private Club Admin for one golf club (tee sheet, check-in, pro shop POS, F&B, pace, agronomy tools, memberships, house accounts, budgets, staff roles). It is separate from individual golfer tools such as group games and practice rounds. Public overview and plan details are under Golf Clubs in the main menu (or /golf-clubs).

Question 27

How is club registration different from a normal golfer account?

Accepted Answer

Golfer signup is for playing and social golf (handicap optional). Club operator signup is for the person who will run the venue (owner or GM): no handicap is required. Use Golf Clubs → Register your golf club (or /golf-clubs/register). If you already have a Golf2Play account, sign in on that page and continue to select your venue.

Question 28

How do I register my golf club and get a dashboard?

Accepted Answer

Open club registration, create or use your operator account, then search the course directory and tick the course(s) at your venue (or register manually if the venue is not listed). You become General Manager of a private Club Admin for that club only. If the venue is already registered, do not create a second tenant ask their GM for a staff invite instead.

Question 29

How much does Golf Clubs cost, and what is included?

Accepted Answer

New clubs get a 30-day free trial with full Club Ops access. After the trial, the Club Ops software plan is £99 per club per month. What the plan covers, and what sits outside it (hardware, card processing), is listed in Club Admin after you register.

Question 30

Is there a free trial?

Accepted Answer

Yes. When you register a golf club you start a 30-day free trial with full Club Admin access. After day 30, subscribe to Club Ops (£99/month software) to keep operating. Platform admins are never billed for Golf Clubs access.

Question 31

How are staff roles managed?

Accepted Answer

Roles are per club. The person who registers becomes GM. Under Club Admin → Staff, invite staff by email (they need a Golf2Play account), assign templates such as pro shop, marshal, agronomy, F&B, finance, or read only, and they accept the invite. Disable access any time without deleting their golfer account. Playing members join as members (approve flow); that is separate from staff.

Question 32

What can staff do in Club Admin?

Accepted Answer

Depending on role: tee sheet and check-in, marshal pace, pin sheets and course status, F&B kitchen and banquets, pro shop till and house statements, dues, broadcasts, events hub (golf competitions plus social and charity events, with in-app wallet or pay-at-club fees), executive reports, calendar-year budget, labour timeclock, offline flush, and audit. Navigation is grouped by workflow. What you see depends on permissions for that club only.

Question 33

How do members enter club competitions or register for social events?

Accepted Answer

Sign in and open Clubs (/clubs). Tap Events on a club you belong to, or use Your clubs — open events when you are a member of multiple clubs. Enter golf competitions or Register for social and charity events. Paid admissions can debit your in-app wallet or be marked pay at club, depending on what the club set. Social events show a ticket code when registered. After entering a competition, open the competition page to submit your scorecard.

Question 34

What is the difference between a golf competition and a social event at a club?

Accepted Answer

Golf competitions are course-based events with entry fees, leaderboards, and scorecard submission (same competitions engine as platform competition games). Social and charity events are for dinners, member-guest days, fundraisers, and similar: capacity, admission fee, registration, and a ticket code — no scorecard. Staff manage both under Club Admin → Competitions (Events hub). Members see both on /clubs.

Question 35

Are there reports and a profit and loss statement?

Accepted Answer

Yes, built-in ops reports under Ops / reports: executive revenue (mix, RevPATT, utilisation), labour timeclock metrics, calendar-year budget with budget vs mapped actuals for some income lines, and optional multi-club chain view. There is not a full statutory profit and loss (no complete expense COGS/payroll accounts inside the app yet). Member house statements show what a player owes the club; true year-end accounts stay with your accountant system.

Question 36

Do golfers and members use the same app?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Golfers use Golf2Play for games, scorecards, and more. Club members can also join the club as members, use member features (e.g. member card/QR), and on-course tools where the club enables them. Staff open Club Admin for operations. Members are not automatically staff.

Question 37

Where do I learn more or start?

Accepted Answer

Open Golf Clubs in the nav (or /golf-clubs) for features, the 30-day trial, and the £99 software plan. When ready, use Register your golf club on that page. Existing staff: open Club Admin from the app or Clubs when you manage a venue.
